ASSESSMENT INFORMATION FOR EYFS, Y1, Y2 & Y6

Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA)

The RBA is statutory and must be completed for ALL children within the first six weeks of them starting Reception (even if they start mid-year for the first time).

Data Collection

  • The LA does not collect data for the RBA, it is all completed in-school and online.

If schools require support administering the RBA to pupils with specific needs, the link is contact us or call the national curriculum assessments helpline on 0300 303 3013, selecting the option for RBA.

The STA’s  RBA help centre also has useful guidance and videos to support schools when administering the assessment.

EYFS Profile Data

The EYFSP is statutory and must be completed for ALL children at the end of their Early Years Foundation Stage, in the final term of the academic year in which they reach age 5.

Each child’s level of development is assessed against 17 early learning goals (ELGs) across all 7 areas of learning in the EYFS statutory framework (link below).  For each ELG, teachers must assess whether a child is meeting the level of development expected at the end of the EYFS, or if they are not yet reaching this level and should be assessed as ‘emerging’.

Exemption from the EYFSP is rare - the A code (the assessment rating for a child who has an exemption) should only be used for children who have an individual exemption on grounds of religious or philosophical beliefs. Schools who submit it for any other reason would not be meeting the statutory requirements of the EYFS.

The profile is intended to provide a reliable and accurate summative assessment of each child’s development at the end of the EYFS, in order to support children’s successful transitions to year 1.

Data Collection

  • Schools and academies must submit ELG data for every child to the LA.
  • Each child will have a submission of ‘1’ (emerging) or ‘2’ (expected) for each of the 17 ELGs.
  • If the whole cohort is working below for every ELG and is ‘emerging’ (ie for a special school) there must still be a submission to the LA for every pupil.
  • In 2026-27 the submission date to the LA for this data is 9:00am on Friday 25th June 2027.
  • Data is submitted to the LA from the school’s MIS, through DfE School2School (S2S)
  • The LA data team submits data for all pupils to the DfE using COLLECT.
