A young person can leave school on the last Friday in June of their year 11.
They must then do one of the following until they are 18:
- Stay in full-time education, for example at a college.
- Start an apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Spend 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training.
Whilst at school, learners should be offered free, independent and impartial advice from a qualified Careers Adviser to help them to make the best decision about their future. The Virtual School will work ensure that this happens through the PEP process.

Students at college or full-time post 16 education, who are looked after or care leavers, may be eligible for a bursary to support their education. Applications for the bursary are made to the college/education provider directly but full details are found here.
