The council have a statutory responsibility for ensuring there are sufficient schools, and therefore school places.
Accurately forecasting demand is challenging. The Council uses Office for National Statistics (ONS) population projections, among other sources of evidence, to help forecast the school population. All forecasts are by their very nature uncertain and represent a snapshot at a particular point in time.
Forecasts and projected numbers are monitored and updated on a regular basis. They take account of known outstanding housing allocations and outstanding planning permissions.
