Maintained schools have obligations as part of a broad and balanced curriculum, to promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural, development of pupils . As part of SMSC, schools are expected to actively promote fundamental British values.
To support schools, the School Improvement Service have developed a toolkit to help schools evaluate their current provision around SMSC and ensure that they plan a curriculum that effectively covers all aspects.
