Governors, together with the school's leadership, determine the strategic direction of the school and have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education.
The governing body will want to consider all the implications of potential academy conversion before making such an important decision and needs to be clear about their rationale for conversion.
What is an Academy?
Academies are independent, state-funded schools, which receive their funding directly from central government, rather than through a local authority. Academies are run by an academy trust, which is a charitable company.
