The 0-6 Pillar of the  Healthy Child Service is the early intervention and prevention public health programme that lies at the heart of universal services for children and families. At a crucial stage of life, the Healthy Child Service’s universal reach provides an invaluable opportunity to identify families that are in need of additional support and children who are at risk of poor outcomes.

The  Healthy Child Service offers every family a programme of screening tests, immunisations, developmental reviews, and information and guidance to support parenting and healthy choices – all services that children and families need to receive if they are to achieve their optimum health and wellbeing.

The Healthy Child Service is the first point of contact for Early Years Providers where there are concerns about a child’s health and wellbeing. Anyone who is expecting a child or has a child up to the age of 6 years can be referred to the service for support and information. The skill mix team in the 0-6 pillar offer core contacts at different points in a baby/child and family’s life. These contacts are delivered both face to face and using a virtual platform.

Infant Feeding, Family Diet and Nutrition Pillar

The Infant Feeding, Family Diet and Nutrition Pillar is made up of a skill mix team who have a wide range of skills and expertise which has supported the service to achieve Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation.

The team offer proactive calls to support breastfeeding,  Breastfeeding support groups, specialist breastfeeding support, weaning groups, the Poppy Programme – reducing weight/ BMI and deliver the National Child Measurement Programme.

Emotional Health and Resilience Pillar

The Emotional Health and Resilience Pillar is a skill mix team who support children and young people aged 6-19 with an identified emotional health need. Referrals accepted from individuals and professionals which are screened to ensure the correct person and service offers support. The team carry out Health Needs Assessment, review development and risk, provide advice and intervention.

The Voice of the Child is at the centre of any support plan.

 

Targeted work is offered to support; anxiety; exam stress; low mood, anger, managing emotions, emerging disordered eating

This support is delivered by: Emotional Resilience Nurses, Family Health Nurse, Psychological Well-being Practitioners (PWPs), Family Health Practitioners

Safeguarding and Children in Care Pillar

We have a skill mix team who work in our Safeguarding and Children in Care Pillar, there are nurses and Lived Experience Practitioners who work with children, young people, their families and other professionals working with families.

The team carry out assessments and offer support directly to young people and their families, attend partnership meeting to share the voice of the child
