It is fully appreciated that sometimes it is difficult for governors to negotiate time off work to attend training courses. What you might not know is that if you are a school governor you are entitled to time off to carry out your role. Section 50 of the Employment Rights Act 1996 requires employers to permit employees who hold certain public positions (including school governors) reasonable time off to perform the duties associated with them although there is no obligation for payment to be made.

For more information on training and how to book on courses ask your clerk or head teacher. All schools have different methods for booking on NYCC courses which is usually done by the school administrator.
