The Schools Forum Guide has been produced to provide new members, local authority officers and elected members with advice, guidance and information relating to the functions and operation of the North Yorkshire County Council Schools Forum. It is also intended to provide prospective members with the information they require to make an informed decision as to whether or not they should stand for election as a representative on the Schools Forum when a suitable vacancy arises.
The Schools Forum FAQs document outlines what the Schools Forum is, what it does, how it is regulated and how you can get involved.

The LMS Scheme for the Financing of Schools in North Yorkshire is the funding framework for schools. It sets out the financial relationship between the Local Authority and the maintained schools it funds. Within it are requirements relating to financial management and associated issues which are binding to both the Local Authority and the schools. The Scheme is updated to reflect Governmental advice. The North Yorkshire Scheme can be found in Chapter 2 of the School Finance Manual .
SCHOOLS FORUM MEMBERSHIP
Could you play a key strategic role in shaping the outcomes of children and young people in North Yorkshire? Do you want to contribute to discussion and proposed solutions on school funding, high needs and early years?
Following the decision to establish a North Yorkshire Learning Trust from September, the Schools Forum will have a key role to play in school funding – particularly around High Needs funding. The Schools Forum is a representative statutory group which advise the local authority on some key issues and are actually the decision-makers on some aspects of school funding. The group has helped to steer schools through the introduction of the ‘soft’ national funding formula. We now need to fill the vacancies on the Schools Forum representing schools across the county.
Details of the how you can apply are outlined in the link above as well as further detail on the appointments process.
Thank-you for taking the time to consider becoming a representative on the North Yorkshire Schools Forum; I appreciate how busy you are and the time commitment that we are asking for.
